Job Description

Position Overview:

As General Counsel, you will oversee the family office's legal needs, offering counsel on everything from estate and wealth transfer strategies to investment-related matters. You will be integral to overseeing the family's trust and estate planning, ensuring the most tax-efficient structures are in place, and leading legal due diligence for investments, especially within healthcare. Your role will involve working closely with external advisors, including tax experts and legal counsel, while advising the family on best practices for governance and compliance, all while mitigating legal risks across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of trust and estate planning, including the creation and administration of trusts, wills, and succession plans.
  • Advise on intergenerational wealth transfer strategies, tax minimization, and family governance structures.
  • Provide counsel on minimizing tax exposure and developing tax-efficient structures for the family's investments.
  • Lead the family office's legal due diligence and structuring for investments, with a focus on healthcare-related ventures and transactions.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review complex investment agreements, joint ventures, and related legal documents.
  • Ensure compliance with domestic and international tax laws and healthcare industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and legal counsel to optimize tax strategies and ensure compliance.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance on corporate governance, including family business policies and entity structures.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks across the family's investments and holdings, particularly in the healthcare space.
  • Address and manage legal aspects of potential disputes, ensuring timely and efficient resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Education: J.D. from a top-tier law school.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience with a focus on trust and estates, tax law, and investment matters, gained either at a leading law firm or in a sophisticated in-house legal environment.
  • Expertise:
  • Strong knowledge of trust and estate planning, wealth transfer, and tax law.
  • Experience in healthcare law, including regulatory compliance, licensing, and healthcare-specific investment structures.
  • Solid track record of handling complex investment transactions, including private equity and venture capital.
